Two FRA-licensed fell races set off from Station Top in Otley and follow public footpaths and trails across Otley Chevin. Both courses climb the 217 stone steps to Surprise View and cross dirt, rocky ground, grass and footpath through the Danefield Climb, Miller Lane, Poolscar Wood and Fells Plantation. The routes are only partially marked, so runners navigate between checkpoints with the race map supplied by the organisers, and digital navigation equipment is not allowed under FRA rules. A water refill point sits at 6 km on the longer route and no cups are provided, so runners carry their own container. Entries are capped at 200 per race, and medals and prizes go to overall and age category placings.

Other questions
The Chevin is a mix of dirt, rocky ground, grass and footpath, with steep climbs and descents and the famous 217 stone steps. Road shoes will struggle, so fell or aggressive trail shoes are a much better choice.
It can be, particularly the 9 km route, which has no cut-offs. Bear in mind the climbing, the rough ground and the requirement to navigate between checkpoints, so some hill experience and map reading confidence will make the day far more enjoyable.
The organisers may require extra kit such as waterproofs, hat, gloves, compass and emergency food. Check the organiser's website in the days before the race for any kit updates.
