Wayout Backyard Ultra sends runners out on a 6.7 km loop through Østerskoven just outside Silkeborg, with a new lap starting every hour on the hour. Anyone who does not make it back inside 60 minutes is out of the race, and the rest of each hour belongs to resting, eating and getting ready for the next start. The route passes quiet lakes, wide views over the Gudenå and dense forest, and each lap climbs around 90 metres. It keeps going until one runner completes a final lap alone, which makes the day as short as a couple of laps for some and a multi-day test for the last few standing.

Every runner starts a 6.7 km lap on the hour. You must be back inside 60 minutes, and the remaining time in the hour is yours for resting, eating and preparing. Anyone who misses the hour is eliminated, and the winner is the last runner standing who completes one final lap alone.
No. The first laps feel easy for most people, so the race welcomes runners of all levels. You decide your own goal and can stop after two laps or push on past 24, which makes it a good first taste of ultra running as well as a serious challenge.
The lap runs through Østerskoven and mixes forest trails with lakeside sections and views over the Gudenå river. Each 6.7 km lap includes roughly 90 metres of climbing.
The event area is the natural gathering point, since runners pass through it at the end of every lap. Supporters can follow progress there and help their runner between laps.
