Difficulty
Runners set off from Woodside Train Station near Greytown and travel across the hills of the Wairarapa to finish at the Tunnel Gully Upper Picnic Area beneath Mt Climie. The ground changes constantly underfoot, with rivers to cross, river beds to run, dense scrub to push through, open hills and steep technical descents in places. The event is part of the WAI Running Festival and offers a 50km or a 100km option, with the longer course asking for patience and care as much as raw speed. Course maps and detailed descriptions are published on the official event website.

Other questions
There are two options, 50K and 100K. Both follow the same mixed terrain country across the Wairarapa hills, with the 100K being the longer and more demanding day out.
Yes. The WAI2K is part of the WAI Running Festival, which brings together several events around the Wairarapa hills over the same weekend.
Course maps and detailed descriptions are published on the official event website at wuu2k.co.nz, along with any updates in the lead up to race day.
Mandatory gear requirements are set by the organiser and published on the official event website. Because the course crosses remote hill country with river crossings, check the gear list carefully before you travel.
It is a tough endurance event and the longer course will push runners mentally as well as physically. The 50K is the shorter of the two options, but anyone stepping up to ultra distance should be comfortable with long days on rough, hilly terrain.
