The Hachinohe Chibikko Marathon is one of the few races in Japan built entirely around elementary school pupils. Children in grades 1 to 6 race over 1.5km, 2km or 3km, with each school year running its own separate start, and every start and finish takes place on the athletics track at Hachinohe City Higashi Sports Park. A 600m parent and child fun run lets preschoolers run beside a guardian, and it is not timed. Entry includes an original towel, a sports drink and a jelly drink for the school-age races, while the top eight in each grade and gender take home medals. A first aid room staffed by a nurse, an ambulance on course and coin lockers in the gymnasium keep race morning simple for families.

The elementary school divisions are open to healthy children who can complete the distance in grades 1 to 6. The 600m parent and child fun run is open to preschool children born between 2 April 2020 and 1 April 2023 together with a guardian aged 18 or over.
The parent and child fun run is not handled through RUNNET. Applications are made directly through the event website.
Reception is open from 07:20 to 08:20 at the front entrance of Hachinohe City Higashi Gymnasium, 8-1-1 Minamitakadai, Hachinohe, Aomori.
Yes. The elementary school divisions are timed and a web completion certificate is issued after the event. Provisional results are posted for the top eight in each grade. The parent and child fun run is not timed.
Children in the elementary school divisions receive an original towel, a sports drink and a jelly drink. Preschool children in the fun run receive sweets.
