Trilho dos Linces takes over the mountain trails around Lordelo, a village just outside Vila Real in northern Portugal, on the second Sunday of November. Runners and walkers pick from five routes: a 50km ultra, a 35km long trail, a 21km, a 12km trail and a gentler 12km walk, all on forest tracks and open hillside with serious climbing, from 600 metres of ascent on the 12km up to 2,800 metres over the 50km. The day starts before first light for the longest distance, with staggered waves through the morning, drink and nutrition stations along every route, medical cover, and a shower and a finisher shirt waiting at the end. The event is built around renewal and recovery after the wildfires that swept this region, so part of every entry fee goes back into replanting burned woodland.
