The Trail Elvas - Património Mundial takes runners into the countryside around Elvas, a walled garrison town in Portugal's Alto Alentejo that holds UNESCO World Heritage status and sits a short hop from the Spanish border. Four options are on offer, a 30 km Trail Longo, an 18 km Trail Sprint, a 12 km Mini Trail and a 10 km walk, so the day works for both seasoned trail runners and those after a shorter outing. The ground underfoot is typical Alentejo trail, dirt tracks and field paths rolling through olive groves and open hills, with the town's fortifications and aqueduct as the backdrop.
