The Trail CastelPontin is staged in Pont-du-Château in the Puy-de-Dôme, in the heart of the Allier valley, and offers three trail distances: an 8.5 km discovery route with 50 m of climb, a 14 km course with 200 m of climb and a 28 km course with 700 m of climb. Runners follow natural paths and trails through green, open countryside with views across the valley. The day also includes 12 km and 22 km walking routes and a 1 km children's race, and the previous edition brought 577 finishers across all distances. Every entrant must present a sports licence or a valid PPS health certificate on race day. The shorter course is open to everyone, including beginners, while the longer distances suit more experienced runners.
