Overview

The Tohoku Fudo Marathon runs beside Lake Naganuma in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture, on 18 April 2027, with both the start and the finish at Naganuma Futoopia Toyotetsu-no-Oka Park. Runners choose a full marathon at 08:30, a half marathon with wave starts every 30 minutes between 09:00 and 11:00, a 5 km run, or a 500 m parent and child run. Aid stations and the finish area hand out specialities from across the Tohoku region along with the spring water used for brewing sake, and a festival with regional food and sake runs alongside the finish. The mood is deliberately relaxed and non-runners are welcome to join the celebrations.

The practical side

Qualification

Open to healthy men and women who can complete the distance within the cut-off: ages 16 and over for the full and half marathon, 13 and over for the 5 km run, and an adult aged 18 or over paired with an elementary school child for the 500 m parent and child run. Participants must have had a health check-up and be certified healthy, arranged at their own expense, and a certificate may need to be presented.

Route

The full marathon starts and finishes at Naganuma Futoopia Toyotetsu-no-Oka Park and runs along the lakeside of Lake Naganuma in Tome City.

Race Day

There is no race-day check-in. The bib with timing chip, parking pass and other documents are mailed in advance, and race information is sent to entrants by email. The full marathon starts at 08:30, half marathon waves run from 09:00 to 11:00, the parent and child run starts at 11:30 and the 5 km run at 13:00. Awards are presented, and food and drink are served at the aid stations and finish.

Before you enter

RefundsNo category changes or refunds are possible after entry for personal reasons. If the event is cancelled due to earthquake, storm or flood damage, snow, incident, accident, epidemic, etc., entry fees are not refunded at all; overpayments or duplicate payments are also not refunded.

TransfersEntries can be transferred through RUNNET's Yuzureru entry transfer service, open from 14 September 2026 to 16 March 2027 and starting after entry closes or after the field fills.

Minimum ageThe 5 km run is open to ages 13 and over, and the 500 m parent and child run pairs an adult aged 18 or over with a child of elementary school age or younger. Students enter in the school year they will be in on race day.

Time limitThe full marathon allows 6 hours 30 minutes, the half marathon 3 hours 30 minutes, the 5 km run 1 hour and the parent and child run 20 minutes. Runners are stopped when the limit expires.
