Ticino 500 is a foot route of roughly 500 kilometres with 40,000 metres of positive elevation gain, following alpine and pre-alpine trails along the borders of the Canton of Ticino. Runners travel fully self-supported between checkpoints, with no direct outside assistance, so the challenge calls for strong judgement, endurance and adaptability. The aim is an adventure of exploration, of meeting your own limits and of respect for the mountains. Every participant takes on the route under their own responsibility, aware of the risks that come with the natural environment. The Ticino 500 is a private sporting raid rather than a competitive race.
