The Fall 50 is a 50 mile foot race that runs the length of the Door County peninsula in Wisconsin, from the start line in the north down to the finish in Sturgeon Bay. Solo runners set off together at 6:30 am and follow public roads that stay open to traffic, guided by red Fall 50 signs at every turn and every mile. Nine rest stations line the route, each one with a Solo Runners Only tent holding food, drink, chairs and gear check, and the fifth exchange just past halfway serves a Half Way Buffet of hot chicken noodle soup and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Runners carry their own support between stations and have 12 hours, until 6:30 pm, to earn an official finish time.

Other questions
You still receive a finisher medal, but no official finish time is recorded. The organisers make no exceptions, because their agreement with local public safety departments does not allow them to encourage runners onto the narrow, winding, unlit roads after dark.
Solo runners can buy a seat on a coach bus to the start for $15. The bus runs one way only and is for solo runners, so family, friends and relay teams cannot ride it. A purchase link appears on the site in the weeks leading up to race day.
Yes. Gear check bins travel to the rest stations and the finish line. Bags are checked in at packet pick up on Friday or at the start line on Saturday morning, and free drawstring bags are provided. At each station the individual bags are laid out under the Solo Runner tents, and once you have taken what you need you put the bag back into the red bin so it can be carried onward.
The nine rest stations stock water, Gatorade, flat Coke, pretzels, oranges, bananas, apples, bagels, chocolate chip cookies, M&Ms, Jolly Ranchers, Clif Bars and Clif Shot Bloks. Exchange 5, just past halfway, adds a Half Way Buffet with hot chicken noodle soup or chicken broth and PB&J sandwiches. Everything is self serve, and runners are responsible for their own support between stations.
No. The course is not closed to motor vehicles and runners should stay alert for cars throughout. Red Fall 50 signs mark every turn and mile, and runners should run on the side of the road where the signs are placed, which usually means facing traffic on the busier stretches.
