The Hofu Yomiuri Marathon is a 42.195km road race run on a JAAF, World Athletics and AIMS certified course that uses one turnaround and long straight sections to keep the elevation change very small. Runners start on Prefectural Road 58 in front of the Salt Arena Hofu and finish inside the athletics stadium at the same Daikyo Nishikawa Square complex, with every category going off together at 10:40. Part of the MGC Series as a men's G1 and women's G3 race, it is built for fast times, and around 30 percent of finishers improve on the time they used to enter. Race day reception runs from 7:30 to 10:00 at the arena and there is no opening ceremony. The field is limited to about 2,600 general runners, with separate quotas for Yamaguchi Prefecture residents, hometown tax donors and Hofu residents.
