The Surrey Oceans Run takes place on 16 January 2027 from the Xcel SPORTS HUB Stadium in Walton on Thames, Surrey. It is a timed, lap-based event run entirely on the flat off road towpath beside the River Thames, with no elevation gain or loss anywhere on the course. Entrants decide on the day how many laps of the 5.3 km out-and-back route they will complete, choosing anything from a single lap up to ultramarathon distance within a seven hour limit. The organiser runs a flexible rock up and run start, with a one hour start window and accommodation of special start time requests depending on the planned distance. An aid station is provided and every finisher can access same day results, an athlete profile, a digital bib and a digital finishers certificate.

Everyone runs the same 5.3 km out-and-back lap along the riverside towpath and simply decides on the day how many laps to complete. Your finishing distance is whatever you cover within the time limit, so you can stop at one lap or keep going towards ultramarathon distance.
The towpath is flat and non-technical, so road shoes are fine for most runners. Trail shoes are a reasonable choice in wet winter conditions when the path can be muddy or slippery.
UK Athletics distance restrictions apply to participants aged 20 or under, so younger entrants may be limited in how far they can run. The organiser refers entrants to the terms and conditions for the exact rules.
