Other questions
Check-in, number collection and a race briefing will take place at or near St Johns Football Club before the 13:30 start. The 5K route climbs about 275m over fell terrain, so expect steep, muddy, tussocky and potentially icy ground in January. The finish returns to the football club, where results and any post-race refreshments are usually based.
Wear fell or trail running shoes with aggressive grip, not road shoes. January on the Isle of Man can bring rain, wind, mud and low temperatures, so use moisture-wicking layers, a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves. Some runners also carry a lightweight emergency layer or foil blanket.
The Isle of Man is reached by ferry from Liverpool or Heysham, or by air to Isle of Man Airport (Ronaldsway). From the airport or Douglas, St Johns is a short drive west near Peel, roughly 20–30 minutes. Winter schedules can be limited, so book travel and check weather disruption in advance.
Because the race is on 1 January, accommodation can book up early. Look for hotels, B&Bs or self-catering in Peel, St Johns or Douglas, and confirm check-in times around New Year. Staying within walking or short driving distance of St Johns Football Club reduces race-day stress.
