The South Wales D-Day Military Series Run takes place at Parc Taf Bargoed, on the site of the old Drift Mine at Trelewis near Merthyr Tydfil, and forms the second of four military themed events marking key dates from the Second World War. Runners and walkers complete a 5.3 km out and back lap that mixes tarmac paths with about half a mile of riverside trail, choosing anything from a single lap up to a marathon or an ultra distance inside a seven hour window. Finishers receive a large bespoke medal, and the medals from all four events in the series slot together into a single 320 mm by 160 mm mural with a flag background. Flexible rock up and run start times and staggered starts keep the day relaxed, and runners may complete as many laps as they wish within the time limit.
