The Shonan International Marathon is renowned as the world's first major marathon to eliminate waste from paper cups and plastic bottles at its drink stations. In a previous race, waste was reduced by an incredible 8446 kg.
The course is one of the flattest in Asia with only 15m elevation difference and just two major turns, making it very fast and accessible.
After the event, visitors can enjoy local attractions such as Enoshima's onsen (hot springs) or Kamakura's temples, both offering wonderful food and historical sites.
Early December offers fantastic temperature-wise conditions for running according to participant reviews, with comfortable running weather along the coast.
