The Screamer Run takes over the main campus of California State University, Bakersfield on an October evening, with the 5K and 10K setting off at sunset and a one mile Kids Trick or Treat Run starting an hour earlier. It is the first running of the event, and the whole evening doubles as a festival, with music, food, a beer garden for the grown ups, a kids' zone, a vendor fair and prizes. Every entry supports AdaptiSport and the CSUB Students with Disabilities program, so the night pairs a run around campus with fundraising for a local cause. Halloween costumes are very much in keeping with the spirit of the occasion.

The Screamer Run takes place on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at CSU Bakersfield. The Kids Trick or Treat Run starts at 6:30 PM and the 5K and 10K both start at 7:30 PM. A second occurrence is listed for Saturday, October 17, 2026.
The Screamer Run raises money for AdaptiSport and the CSUB Students with Disabilities program, so taking part supports a local cause as well as a good night out.
The running is only part of the evening. There is music, food, a beer garden for the grown ups, a kids' zone, a vendor fair and plenty of prizes, so runners and spectators tend to stay on for a while after finishing.
Costumes fit the Halloween spirit of the event, and the atmosphere is deliberately playful. Do bear in mind that the 5K and 10K start after sunset, so anything you wear should be safe to run in and easy to see in the dark.
Both races start at 7:30 PM in early October, so most runners finish after sunset. The event does not publish a mandatory kit list, but reflective clothing and a small light are sensible precautions on an evening course.
