Saturn Running's Elf Bobble Hat Run takes place at Durham Amateur Rowing Club on the banks of the River Wear, with Durham Cathedral in view for much of the route. The day is run as a seven hour time challenge on a signed trail circuit: runners complete as many laps as they wish, and a full lap measures around 7 km, though the loop can be shortened to about 3.28 miles when conditions require it. Turn points at 3 km and 5 km sit inside the lap so that runners can finish on a distance that suits UK Athletics age rules, and 3 km is the minimum needed to be counted as an official finisher. An aid and drinks table waits at the start and finish of every lap, offering food and drink including vegan choices, and everyone who finishes at least 3 km goes home with a themed medal, a bobble hat and a goody bag with a vegan option.
