Other questions
Check-in usually involves bib pickup and a mandatory kit check. Arrive early to avoid queues, especially for the longer distances. Starts are likely staggered by distance, with the 185 km and 96 km starting earlier. Listen for announcements and follow volunteer instructions.
The finish line typically offers warm food, drinks, a place to rest, and medical support. For winter ultra distances, expect a warm indoor area if possible. Finisher medals and possibly other awards are given. Drop bags may be available.
Trail running shoes with aggressive tread are essential for the muddy, snowy, or icy trails. Consider waterproof or water-resistant shoes, possibly with studs if conditions are icy. Dress in layers, avoiding cotton, and carry spare warm clothes in a drop bag or pack.
Stay calm, keep warm, and assess your situation. If you can, move to the nearest checkpoint or call the emergency number on your bib. Use your emergency blanket and whistle to attract attention. Do not continue if injured. Organizers have protocols for evacuation.
