The Airport Fire in Trabuco Canyon burned thousands of acres in 2024, including Blue Jay Campground and a large part of the traditional route. The organiser re-routed the race so it could still be run inside the same national forest district.
No. The marathon was first run in 1988 and was an annual event for nearly three decades, but it was cancelled in 2018 because of the Holy Fire on its 30th anniversary. It returned in 2019 and 2023, with other years lost to fires and Covid.
The race is organised by On The Run, a small California trail race organiser that also puts on the Billy Goat race.
The organiser runs an Adopt An Athlete programme, which is listed in the site navigation and is the usual route for people who want to back a runner rather than enter the race.
Yes. Course details, start times and kit guidance for the re-routed Black Star Canyon course are confirmed nearer the event, so check the official race page and any email updates after you enter.
