On Sunday 1 November 2026 the Jiu Valley hosts a single 14 km mountain race through Cheile Tăii, at the foot of the Șureanu Mountains near Petrila. The route climbs roughly 600 m over forest, open ground and the rocky sections that give the gorge its character, and the organisers describe it as runnable from start to finish. It is laid out in Ținutul Momârlanilor, a territory whose mountain households and momârlan traditions give the day its identity. Registration runs through the Time-iT platform, and runners aged 65 and over take part free of charge.
