The half marathon is run entirely on the closed Shanghai International Circuit, the track built for the Chinese Formula 1 Grand Prix. Runners cover 13.1 miles of smooth circuit asphalt through the venue's wide, sweeping corners, with the same point serving as start and finish. The race is staged at Chinese Athletics Association A1 level, so a competitive field shares the track with runners there for the novelty of the venue.

Other questions
The start and finish are both at the Shanghai International Circuit on Yining Road in Jiading District, the Formula 1 venue to the northwest of central Shanghai. The whole half marathon is run on the closed circuit itself.
Jiading is connected to central Shanghai by metro and road, so the circuit can be reached from the city centre by public transport or taxi. For runners arriving from abroad, Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong international airports both serve the city, with Hongqiao the closer of the two to Jiading.
Shanghai in January is cold and often damp, with daytime temperatures typically in the single figures in Celsius and a sharper wind chill on an exposed circuit. Runners should plan for layers and consider gloves and a hat for the start area.
The event is held at a Grand Prix circuit with grandstand and spectator infrastructure, so there is plenty of room to watch, and the looped layout means supporters can see runners pass more than once. The listing does not set out specific viewing areas or spectator transport, so check with the organiser closer to race day.
The event listing itself is in English, but a past participant noted that on-course and pre-race communication was mostly in Chinese and flagged that as the one thing to improve. Overseas entrants should expect that key information may be published in Chinese first and plan accordingly.
