The Run for freedom Bitcoin Half Marathon takes place entirely on closed roads in Chiang Mai, starting and finishing at Rot Fai Park in the Wat Ket district. The flat, out-and-back course runs past the city's best known landmarks and through the light decorations of the Yi Peng Festival, with cool morning breezes typical of northern Thailand in late November. Runners can choose between a 5K fun run, a 10K and a half marathon, with the shorter distances setting off at 05:00 and the half marathon at 07:30. The race weekend coincides with a Digital Finance Expo, where speakers share their insights on digital currencies and Bitcoin, so the days around the event mix running with talks on digital finance.
