The Psotka Memorial (Memoriál Jozefa Psotku) is one of the oldest high-altitude cross-country mountain races in Europe. It is held in memory of Jozef Psotka and of friends who died on Mt Everest, and it takes place in the High Tatras National Park in Slovakia.
Yes. This is a high-altitude mountain race with roughly 2,500 m of climbing and descent on technical national park trails. It suits runners who are comfortable moving over steep, rocky ground for many hours, and the event asks entrants to be capable of looking after themselves in changeable alpine conditions.
The course follows the marked hiking paths of the High Tatras National Park. Expect continuous climbing and descending on rocky mountain trails rather than smooth paths, with long stretches well above the valley floor.
Yes. The race is listed by ITRA with a Mountain Level of 7, a Finisher Level of 390 and an EXTREME challenge rating, and finishers earn ITRA points towards their performance index.
The start and finish area at Lake Štrbské Pleso is the easiest place to watch. Much of the route runs through remote high mountain terrain that is not practical for spectators, so friends and family often base themselves at the start and finish.
