Phoenix Running stages a timed, lap-based event on a 5.3 km (3.28 mile) out-and-back course along the River Thames towpath at Xcel SPORTS HUB Stadium on Waterside Drive in Walton on Thames. The ground underfoot is off-road trail with no elevation gain or loss, and runners complete as many laps as their chosen distance requires inside a seven hour limit. A flexible one hour start window accommodates different arrival times. Real alpacas visit the towpath during the day for petting and photographs, and finishers receive a bespoke medal unless they choose the cheaper no-medal entry.
