The Surrey Cakeathon is a timed multi-lap event based at the Xcel Sports Hub Stadium in Walton on Thames. Runners head out along the river Thames towpath on a flat 5.3 km out-and-back trail lap, completing as many or as few laps as they choose within a seven hour limit, with options from a single lap up to half marathon, marathon and ultra distances. A cake-themed aid station sits on the circuit, and entrants are invited to bring homemade bakes such as cookies, cupcakes or fudge for a friendly competition with trophies for the three best. Finishers receive a bespoke medal, with a cheaper no-medal entry available for those who would rather skip it, and results, athlete profiles, digital BIBs and digital certificates are published on the day.

Other questions
Yes. The event is built around a 5.3 km lap and runners complete as many or as few laps as they choose within the seven hour limit. You can set out intending a half marathon and stop after a shorter distance, or keep going past the marathon if you feel good.
Because every distance uses the same lap, the choice mainly affects what you aim for rather than where you run. Many runners pick a distance that stretches them a little, then adjust on the day depending on how the legs feel.
Rather than a single mass start, the organisers run a rock up and run format with a one hour start window. Special start time requests can be accommodated depending on the distance you plan to cover, so it is worth contacting Phoenix Running in advance if you need an early or late start.
Yes. Bringing something homemade is entirely optional and plenty of runners bring a bake purely to share. If you do want to compete, the organiser judges the entries and awards trophies for the three best bakes.
The listing does not publish a weather policy, so it is best to check the Phoenix Running event page or contact the organiser directly if conditions look uncertain in the days before the race.
