The marathon distance is eight laps of the 5.3km loop around Grafham Water and is recognised by the 100 Marathon Club. Runners return past the aid station at the end of every lap, so support and supplies are never far away.

The course is a single 5.3 km (3.28 mile) out-and-back lap around Grafham Water. You complete as many or as few laps as you wish, and the minimum recorded distance is one lap.
Phoenix Running stages both attended events and a virtual option for this event, so you can take part remotely and still receive a physical medal or memento.
The lap format makes it very approachable. The surface is mostly tarmac cycle path, the route is nearly flat, and you can choose to stop after a single lap, which suits runners new to racing or returning from a break.
