Spectators are more than welcome. The Weir Pub is right next to the start and finish line, so it offers an extremely convenient cheering point. The Weir offers cold drinks, hot drinks and food from 11am, and there is a café at the nearby Xcel Leisure Centre. The Weir also has hotel rooms for those wishing to stay over, but book early as it always sells out.
Complete one lap and you are both a finisher and a winner. Complete four laps for a half marathon distance, eight laps for a full marathon distance recognised by the 100 Marathon Club, and nine or more laps for an ultra marathon distance.
Phoenix Running are now in their 11th year of organising events in the South-East of England. They are all about being inclusive, with great routes, great medals and above all great people. They believe in encouraging and enabling runners to achieve things they once thought impossible, whether that is a first 5km, 5 mile or 50km run.
The beauty of this format is that you do not need to decide in advance. Come and run a lap, see how you feel on the day and keep going if it feels right. Runners on the no medal entry are also asked to confirm a distance at checkout, but the lap format lets you adjust on the day.
Phoenix Running uses two courses from The Weir in Walton. The Blue Bridge route heads west along the Thames, over the small Blue Bridge and under Walton Bridge before returning. The Hampton Court route heads east towards Hampton Court, passing Sunbury Lock before returning. Both are flat towpath routes with no elevation gain or loss. The course is confirmed one week before the event, depending on local events and the weather.
