The main course of the Orjen Circuit race climbs into the heart of Orjen, the highest mountain of the coastal Dinarides, linking the most spectacular summits of the massif, among them Veliki Kabao (1894 m), the highest peak of the Adriatic, and the imposing Subra with its famous Amphitheatre, one of the finest landscapes of the coastal Dinarides. The route crosses rocky ridges, dense mountain forest, grassy plateaus and narrow single-track paths, passing a succession of ridges and katuns, the summer shepherd settlements. It is technically demanding, with several steep climbs and descents, and it opens wide panoramas over the Adriatic Sea, the Bay of Kotor and the peaks of the Dinarides. Runners go solo over 30.35 km with 1798 m of ascent and descent, under an 8 hour time limit and with three aid stations on the course.

Other questions
The organiser posts news, start lists and any last minute changes on the Orjenski Djir Facebook page and on Instagram at hoka_orjenskidjir_skyrace. Check these channels in the days before the race.
The course is technically demanding, with rocky ridges, narrow mountain footpaths and several steep climbs and descents. It suits runners who already have mountain or longer trail experience rather than complete beginners.
Early October on Orjen brings changeable autumn weather, with warm, sunny spells at the coast and cool, windy and often misty conditions high on the ridges. Rain is possible at any point, and temperatures drop quickly with altitude, so layers and a waterproof shell are wise.
Herceg Novi sits on the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. The town is reached by road along the Adriatic coast, with Dubrovnik airport in Croatia and Tivat and Podgorica airports in Montenegro as the closest arrival points, followed by bus, hire car or transfer.
No weather policy is published on this page. Mountain races on Orjen can be shortened or rerouted if conditions are unsafe, and announcements are made through the organiser's social media channels, so follow them closely in the final days.
