The North Tyneside 10k Road Race is a coastal 10 kilometre road run through North Shields, Fish Quay and Tynemouth, finishing at St Mary's Lighthouse in Whitley Bay. The course passes a working Fish Quay, runs alongside the River Tyne and goes by Tynemouth Priory and Castle before a long seafront stretch to the finish line. It is organised by North Tyneside Council and supported by Start Fitness and Clearly Drinks. Chip timing is used, results are delivered by text message, and race video clips are made available afterwards. Finishers collect a goody bag that includes a race t-shirt. Recent times are quick, with the 2026 winners running 32 minutes 25 seconds and 38 minutes 05 seconds, and the course record standing at 30 minutes 26 seconds.
