Morat-Fribourg is a long-standing point-to-point event that has linked the towns of Morat and Fribourg in French-speaking Switzerland since the 1930s, traditionally on the first Sunday of October. The flagship distance covers 17.17 km of road from Morat's Hauptgasse to Place Georges-Python in Fribourg, with about 388 m of climbing through the arcades of the old town, the villages of Courgevaux, Courlevon, Courtepin and Granges-Paccot, and the celebrated Sonnaz climb. Around it sit a 26 km trail, shorter road races over 9.65 km, 3.5 km and 1.3 km, and a walking category, including a nocturnal race and a junior event on the Saturday. October weather on the Swiss Plateau swings between morning fog and autumn sunshine, so runners are advised to wear a layer to the start pen and hand it to the bag transport. The day finishes in Fribourg's old town, overlooked by the Saint Nicholas Cathedral, with local specialities such as half-and-half fondue and saffron cuchaule waiting nearby.

Other questions
Yes. A dedicated walking category covers the 17.17 km route between Morat and Fribourg, so walkers follow the same classic line as the runners without a race pace.
The event falls on the first Sunday of October, when the Swiss Plateau often starts the day in fog and can finish in autumn sunshine, or the reverse. Conditions can change quickly, so layers are a sensible choice.
Yes. A bag transport runs from the start, so runners can wear a warm layer to the start pen in Morat and hand it over before setting off. It will be waiting at the finish in Fribourg.
The Sonnaz is the decisive climb on the classic Morat to Fribourg route. It has been nicknamed the Alpe d'Huez of Morat-Fribourg, and local supporters crowd the slope to form a guard of honour, which usually carries runners up faster than they expect. After it comes the final pull up the Route des Alpes to the finish line.
The flagship 17.17 km road route climbs about 388 m in total, with the Sonnaz and the Route des Alpes doing most of the damage late on. The 9.65 km from Courtepin is far gentler at around 47 m of climbing, while the 3.5 km Race of the Daring packs about 139 m into a short night-time course.
