Mendip Aurora is a night trail run staged at the Mendip Activity Centre in Churchill, North Somerset, and it is the opening event of the Dark Skies Series. The route is traffic free and uses the activity centre grounds together with Sandford Quarry, giving an undulating course with some climbs and more technical trail sections. The 5 km race is one lap of that circuit while the 10 km race is two laps of the same lap. Because the whole event takes place in the dark, every runner must carry a head or chest torch of at least 250 lumens, and trail running shoes are strongly advised.

Other questions
Every runner must wear a head or chest torch rated at 250 lumens or more. It is a condition of entry, so please check your torch before race night and bring spare batteries if your model allows.
Trail running shoes are strongly advised. The course is undulating with some technical sections and quarry ground, and grip matters much more in the dark than it does on a road loop.
Mendip Aurora is the first event in the Dark Skies Series, a set of night races organised by Channel Events.
There are two ticket options available. Please do select the distance you wish to enter when purchasing your individual or series entry. If you do wish to change your distance on the day then simply inform us at registration. To be included in the series standings you need to compete in the same distance for all seven events.
