The Medal Madness event at Deer Valley Park offers three distances, a 5K, a 10K and a 13.1 mile half marathon, all starting at 8:30AM on park paths in north Phoenix. The routes are run on a lapped circuit, so runners pass the finish area repeatedly and can top up water there at the end of each lap. Race day is deliberately low key: the field is small, the course is clear and the atmosphere is relaxed rather than crowded. Finisher medals, published results and a friendly community feel are part of every US Road Running event. Because staff numbers on site are small and EMS is not stationed at the venue, participants should plan for the weather themselves and bring anything they might want between laps.
