Marathon Royan U Côte de Beauté takes place in the seaside town of Royan on France's Atlantic coast, with adult races over the marathon, the half-marathon (20 km) and 10 km, plus a set of short children's races from 400 m to 3.2 km. The adult courses use closed roads through Royan and out along the Côte de Beauté, a coastline of cliffs, pine woods and sandy bays, and the profile is rolling and genuinely hilly rather than flat, with the climbs biting hardest in the closing stages of the marathon. The event is part of the Challenge de la Convivialité, so the day is built around music on the course, misting sprays and water arches, festive aid stations and a best-costume competition. A party with food trucks and two live bands follows near the Grande Conche beach, and children get their own races on the Friday evening.

Other questions
It is hilly. Runners repeatedly describe the marathon as beautiful but demanding, with many climbs and a particularly tough final 12 kilometres. The half-marathon has a few shorter climbs and is a more forgiving prospect.
Yes, and you are encouraged to. Costumes are welcomed, and there is a competition for the best fancy dress as part of the Challenge de la Convivialité.
Yes. Pace groups are provided for the marathon, including groups targeting 4h15 and 4h30, and one runner reported joining the 4h00 group in the half. Pace groups are a useful guide, but do check the target pace with the pacer on the day.
There is a festive post-race evening beside the Grande Conche de Royan, with food trucks and two live bands. It is a relaxed way to finish the weekend on the Côte de Beauté.
Finishers receive a medal and a T-shirt, and at least one edition also handed out a bottle of Pineau des Charentes. Full details of the finisher package for the coming edition are confirmed by the organiser.
