Other questions
Yes. The organiser describes Ľudova 50 as both a mountain ultramarathon and a long distance hiking march, so walkers take on the same 51 km route as the runners.
The course follows marked hiking trails only, but a map of the Strážovské vrchy or a GPS device loaded with the route is compulsory equipment, so bring one even though the trail is waymarked.
The organisers describe the surface as roughly 30% forest, 5% asphalt and 65% snow, so the race is run and walked in winter mountain conditions. That is why a headlamp and reflective kit are mandatory.
The organiser watches the weather radar throughout the event, mainly for snowfall and storms. If conditions threaten safety, participants are contacted with instructions and the organiser decides what steps to take.
The organiser recommends an individual medical examination before the race, especially if you have had an infectious illness such as tonsillitis or flu in the six to eight weeks before the start.
