The Ladakh Umlingla Challenge is a high-altitude road race series on the Umling La road above Demchok in Ladakh, India. Runners pick from 10 km, half marathon, marathon, 50 km and 70 km, all following a point to point tarmac route that touches its highest point at about 5,799 m near Umling La Pass, the highest motorable pass in the world. The ground underfoot is sealed mountain road the whole way, so the difficulty comes from thin air, exposure and long climbs rather than rough terrain. Race day includes a shuttle to the start line, drink and nutrition stations, medical support, bag drop and toilets on course, and a pre-race and post-race meal. The field is deliberately small, in the region of a hundred runners, which suits athletes chasing a once-in-a-lifetime altitude challenge in remote Himalayan scenery.

Other questions
There are five options: 10 km, half marathon, marathon, 50 km and 70 km. All of them use the same point to point road route over the Umling La road above Demchok.
The route touches its highest point at about 5,799 m near Umling La Pass, which the organisers describe as the highest motorable pass in the world. That makes this the highest altitude road marathon and ultra on the calendar.
Arrive in Ladakh early enough to acclimatise before race day, keep the first days easy, drink more than you would at sea level and expect to slow down. Build your training around long, steady climbs and be honest with yourself about how you feel at altitude.
Most runners fly into Leh and travel onward by road into the Changthang region via Hanle. The organisers provide a shuttle to the start line on race day and one night of accommodation at Hanle, but travel to and from Ladakh, and any other nights, are yours to book.
Yes. Drink stations, nutrition stations, medical assistance and toilets are provided along the route, and bag drop is available so you can leave layers for after the finish.
