Other questions
Expect a trail-running atmosphere based at the event area in Nieuw Milligen. Arrive early enough to collect your bib if it is not posted in advance, drop off any bag, attend the briefing, and start in your assigned wave. The course uses sandy trails through the Kootwijkerzand and surrounding Veluwe landscape, so conditions underfoot can be softer and slower than road running. Final check-in times, start procedures, and finish-line facilities will be confirmed in the organiser's race information.
Wear trail running shoes with good grip, because the Kootwijkerzand course follows sandy trails that may be soft, damp, or muddy in November. Dress in layers suitable for Dutch autumn weather: a breathable base layer, a light insulating layer, and a windproof or waterproof outer layer. Bring gloves, a hat, and a buff, as the open Veluwe landscape can be cold and windy. Avoid road-running shoes with minimal tread.
From Schiphol Airport, take a train to Apeldoorn or Amersfoort, then continue by bus, taxi, or bike to Nieuw Milligen. Eindhoven Airport and Weeze Airport are possible alternatives but usually involve longer journeys. Use the NS train planner and 9292.nl to plan your route, and allow extra time on race morning because rural bus services may be infrequent. If you are travelling with a group, a taxi or rental car from the station can be more convenient.
Choose based on your recent trail experience, weekly training volume, and comfort with time on your feet. The 10K is suitable for beginners or road runners new to trails, the 20K suits runners with some trail experience, and the 30K requires solid endurance and pacing discipline. Remember that sandy trails can feel harder than the same distance on road. If you are unsure, pick the shorter distance and aim to finish strong rather than risking injury or missing a cut-off.
