The Khao Yai Marathon runs a single loop road course through the forested surrounds of Khao Yai National Park, Thailand's first World Heritage national park and one of the country's most accessible stretches of cool, clean mountain air. Race weekend spreads across two days: a family 2K opens the programme on Saturday afternoon, and the full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K all start in the dark early hours of Sunday morning from the Khao Yai Marathon activity ground at Mu Si in Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima. Marathon runners set off first at 03:00, followed by the half marathon, 10K and 5K. Entries include a finisher medal, event T-shirt, goodie bag, timing chip, drink and nutrition stations, medical support, bag drop and toilets.

Other questions
The marathon starts at 03:00, the half marathon at 04:30, the 10K at 05:00 and the 5K at 05:15, so plan to arrive well before your start to allow for warm-up, toilets and bag drop, and remember that race packs must be collected the day before.
The start and finish are both at the Khao Yai Marathon activity ground in Mu Si, which is the easiest place for supporters to base themselves. The Saturday afternoon family 2K is a good option for children and spectators who want a shorter, more relaxed day out.
January falls in Thailand's cooler, drier season, and Khao Yai sits at altitude, so early morning starts can be genuinely cool while the day warms up quickly after sunrise. Layers that are easy to shed before your start are useful.
The event is aimed at runners, but the shorter distances and the family 2K are the most comfortable places to take things at an easier pace. If you plan to run or walk a long distance slowly, check with the organisers in advance about any course time limits.
