The Kennet & Avon Canal Race covers 145 miles non-stop from Little Venice in London to Bristol, run mostly on canal towpaths and riverside trails across southern England. The route threads through canalside towns, the Kennet Valley, Caen Hill Locks, Dundas Aqueduct and Bath, alternating urban stretches with quiet Wiltshire countryside. Runners choose a Canal Crew entry or a Bring Your Own Crew entry, and both supported and unsupported categories are offered. The event is volunteer powered and not for profit, run under UK Athletics rules with permission from the Canal & River Trust, and operates with a 45 hour overall limit plus checkpoint cut-offs. Long gaps between checkpoints mean competitors carry enough food, water and essential kit for the sections in between.

Other questions
Canal Crew entries are supported by the event's own crew, with checkpoint food and kit-bag arrangements organised for those runners and retirement transport available under the event arrangements. Bring Your Own Crew entries mean your own support team looks after you along the route.
Yes. Both supported and unsupported entry categories are offered, with associated fees for each. Unsupported runners need to be comfortable carrying what they need between checkpoints, because there are long gaps without support.
Entries are first come, first served through SiEntries. The entry window opens on 31 October 2026 at 10:00 and closes on 18 June 2027 at 06:00, so it is worth being ready as soon as it opens.
Checkpoints provide drinks for all entrants. Food and kit-bag arrangements are made for Canal Crew entrants, while runners in other categories should plan to carry sufficient food and water for the long stretches between checkpoints.
Retirement transport is available for Canal Crew entrants under the event arrangements. If you are running unsupported or with your own crew, plan in advance how you would get yourself and your kit back from a checkpoint.
