The Hiester Cares 5K Run-Walk to Prevent is staged by the Hiester Cares Foundation in support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Participants take on a USATF certified 5K course that winds through the scenic pathways of Fuquay-Varina High School in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, and both runners and walkers share the same route. Everyone who enters receives a race t-shirt and a swag bag of goodies, and age group awards are handed out across categories spanning the under 15s to the 70+ age group. The event is as much a community fundraiser as it is a race, with each step taken helping to raise funds for suicide prevention.
