Distance
Terrain
Sixty thousand runners take on 13.1 miles of closed road from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne to the coast at South Shields. The route crosses the Tyne Bridge and rolls through Gateshead before a largely flat run toward the sea and a downhill closing couple of miles into South Shields, with big crowds and on-route entertainment for company. The atmosphere is famously inclusive and loud, and the event raises millions of pounds for charity every year.

Other questions
You pay a £35 registration fee at the time of booking and pledge to raise a minimum of £375 for Rethink Mental Illness. The registration fee does not contribute to your fundraising target, and all funds raised are due no later than six weeks after the event.
Optional refund protection is offered at checkout through XCover for £3.50. It provides a full refund if you cannot attend because of injury or illness including Covid-19, adverse weather on race day, unexpected public transport disruption, or breakdown or accident.
The charity asks you to set out how you plan to hit the £375 target when you register. Where possible, funds should be collected through a secure online fundraising page, although donations by debit or credit card, cheque or bank transfer are also accepted. You agree to follow the Fundraising Regulator's Code of Fundraising Practice.
The event is organised professionally with medical support and marshalling along the route. You confirm at registration that your general state of health is good, that you take part at your own risk, and that you will seek advice from a general practitioner first if you have a medical condition or are unsure about your physical ability to complete 13.1 miles.
Possibly. Rethink Mental Illness may ask you to complete an additional registration form for the third-party event organiser so they can confirm your entry. It is your responsibility to make sure that form is completed by the given deadline, otherwise your place may be withdrawn.
