Distance
Terrain
Gone Loco is run entirely on the Eureka Trail in Athens, Tennessee, a converted rail corridor that follows a former railroad bed southeast through woodlands, rural countryside and the small community of Mashburn before reaching the outskirts of Englewood. The surface is smooth gravel rather than pavement, and the organisers bill the trail as very flat and 100 percent runnable, with gentle grades and no technical footing. The course is certified at the marathon distance, so finishing times stand as measured marks. East Coast Adventures directs the event, with entries handled through UltraSignup.

Other questions
Yes. The course is listed as a certified marathon course, which means it is measured at the full marathon distance of 42.195 kilometres.
The trail is smooth gravel and stays flat for the whole distance, so standard road shoes work well. Light trail shoes are also a comfortable option if you prefer a little more grip on the crushed stone.
Yes. Because the route follows one continuous rail trail, friends and family can see runners at the Athens trailhead, in Mashburn around the middle of the course, and again towards the Englewood end near the finish.
The gravel rail trail drains well and holds up in wet conditions. Any decision to change or cancel the event in severe weather would be communicated by East Coast Adventures through their website and social media channels.
