The German Wine Route Marathon starts and finishes at the Haus der Deutschen Weinstraße in Bockenheim an der Weinstraße, a wine village in the Palatinate. Runners stay on sealed roads as the route works its way through the vineyards and wine villages of the Leiningerland and the Freinsheim area, with the turning point at Bad Dürkheim. Race day offers a full marathon, a Duo Marathon and a half marathon, all on 2 April 2028. Planning and organisation are led by the Bad Dürkheim district, with race organisation by TSV Bockenheim and TSG Grünstadt.

Other questions
Yes. Alongside the individual marathon there is a Duo Marathon over the same 42.195 km distance, which lets two runners take on the course together or share it between them. Choose the Duo option when you enter if you would rather not run the full distance alone.
Bockenheim an der Weinstraße sits on the German Wine Route in the Palatinate, roughly an hour by road from Frankfurt Airport and easily reached from Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Kaiserslautern. The village is served by regional rail and bus services, and the start area at the Haus der Deutschen Weinstraße is in the middle of the village. Check with the organiser for any race day shuttle or road closure arrangements before you set out.
Early April in the Palatinate is mild and changeable. You can expect anything from cool, sunny mornings in single figures to warmer afternoons in the mid teens, and rain is always possible. Layers that you can shed, plus a light waterproof, are the usual approach for this time of year.
The route is a road course through gently rolling wine country rather than a mountain route, which makes it a fair setting for a first marathon or half marathon. The main thing to plan for is time on your feet and the chance of warm spring sunshine later in the day. Train for the full distance and read the course information on the official site before race day.
Yes. Because the route passes through the wine villages of the Leiningerland and Freinsheim, spectators can move between villages and catch runners at several points, and the start and finish area at the Haus der Deutschen Weinstraße is an easy base for the day. Local roads may be closed during the race, so allow extra time if you are driving between viewing spots.
