The Gambarogno Trail is a mountain race day above the shores of Lake Maggiore in the Swiss canton of Ticino, with two races on the same date. La Capanna covers 35 km with 3,079 m of climbing and 1,622 m of descending, following old paths from the lakeside through woodland and alpine pastures up to the Capanna Gambarögn and its wide views over the lake. La Vertical covers 7.5 km and around 1,450 m of ascent, a single sustained climb from the shore to the same mountain terrace. Both run entirely on mountain trail, with steep gradients and technical, sometimes wild ground underfoot.

Entries for the 2027 edition open on 16 September 2026. Registration runs through the Performance Timing portal linked from the event page.
La Capanna is a 35 km mountain race with 3,079 m of climbing and 1,622 m of descent, while La Vertical is a 7.5 km uphill race with around 1,450 m of ascent. La Vertical suits runners who want a short but very steep climb, while La Capanna asks for endurance over many hours.
Both are demanding. The organisers describe La Capanna as hard, wild and authentic, with ancient paths, woodland, alpine pastures and ridges. La Vertical is short in distance but gains height quickly and stays steep the whole way to the Capanna Gambarögn.
