The Freiburg Trailrun takes place in Freiburg im Breisgau on Saturday 17 April 2027 and offers three trail races: an 18 km Kybfelsen Trail, a 34 km Schauinsland Trail and a 60 km ultra trail. The routes head into the wooded hills above the city on the western edge of the Black Forest, where forest tracks, roots and rocky sections are mixed with long climbs and fast descents. Two of the races carry the names of local summits, the Kybfelsen and the Schauinsland, which gives a good idea of where the day is spent. Runners choose the distance that matches their experience, from a first step onto the trails to a full day out in the mountains.

Other questions
The event offers 18 km, 34 km and 60 km trail routes. The 18 km Kybfelsen Trail suits runners moving from road to trail or looking for a shorter day out, the 34 km Schauinsland Trail adds a serious climb and longer time on the feet, and the 60 km ultra is a full day in the hills for experienced trail runners. Match the distance to your current fitness and to the amount of climbing you have trained for.
Distance changes depend on the organiser's entry rules and on whether the race you want still has places. Contact the organiser directly through the official website as early as possible if you want to move up or down a distance, and expect any change to be confirmed in writing.
Freiburg im Breisgau and the surrounding hills give spectators several options, from spots near the start and finish to viewpoints on the Schauinsland road reached by car or cable car. Trails themselves are not accessible to vehicles, so plan to watch at one or two points rather than following runners around the course. The organiser usually publishes suggested viewing points with the race information.
Aid stations are a feature of trail races, and the 34 km and 60 km routes normally have more of them than the 18 km. Typical fare includes water, an energy drink, fruit, cake, salty snacks and sometimes soup on the longer route. Exact station locations and menus are published on the official website in the weeks before the race.
Mountain weather above Freiburg can change quickly in April, with snow or ice possible on the higher sections of the Schauinsland route. The organiser decides on any course changes or cancellation and communicates them on the official website and at registration. Bring clothing for cold, wet conditions even if the forecast looks mild.
