The practical side

Terrain

Park paths and a short section of road, with grass areas adjoining the finish that runners are asked to avoid because of recent wildflower planting.

Route

An outward leg onto Mosspark Boulevard, re-entry to the park at the second left, 1.5 anticlockwise laps of the cricket pitch, a loop past The Palace of Art and House for an Art Lover, then a final lap on the track to the finish line.

What you get

Chip timingThe Festive Foodbank Reindeer Run - Glasgow is timed by stopwatch rather than chip. This means there is no timing chip to attach to your shoe. Your time is recorded manually by the timing team. Keep your race number visible on the front of your top, follow the funnel at the finish, and do not duck out before the finish line. If you think your result is missing after the event, contact the organizer with your name and number.

On the day

ParkingFrom Glasgow Airport (GLA), the easiest options are a taxi to Bellahouston Park (roughly 15-25 minutes depending on traffic) or the airport bus to Glasgow city centre and then a local bus, Subway or taxi onward. From Edinburgh Airport (EDI), take the train or coach to Glasgow city centre, then continue by bus, Subway or taxi to Bellahouston Park. For accommodation, look in Glasgow city centre, the West End or around Ibrox, and book early because the event is in the festive season.

Public transportIf you are new to running, build up gradually with run/walk intervals until you can comfortably cover 5K. Include some sessions on grass, park paths or pavement to get used to the mixed surface at Bellahouston Park. Practise running in cold, wet conditions and test any festive costume or layers before race day. In the final week, reduce your mileage, stay hydrated and arrive warm for the start.

First aid on courseThere is likely to be first aid cover at the start and finish and marshals around the 5K route, but the event listing does not specify full medical details. The course is marked and marshalled, and you should follow all instructions. If you feel unwell, stop and alert the nearest marshal. In an emergency, call 999 and give your location, using course landmarks such as Mosspark Boulevard, The Palace of Art or House for an Art Lover to help responders find you.

TransfersTransfer and deferral policies are set by the event organizer and are not specified in the event listing. If you cannot run, contact the organizer as early as possible. Many charity runs allow a transfer to another runner or a deferral to a future edition for an admin fee, but this is not guaranteed. Do not let someone else run under your name without written approval, as it can affect timing, medical cover and fundraising.
