ElCid TrailXtrem is a mountain ultramarathon that crosses the Sierra del Cid and Maigmó natural area beside Petrer, linking seventeen different summits on a circular route of roughly 67.5 km. Runners cover every kind of ground, from long ridge traverses to steep climbs, high above the Alicante coast, with sixteen hours allowed to reach the finish. The race is held every two years, and in the alternate years the same organisers put on four shorter 'tramo' races that cover the same ground in stages. Entrants can take the full distance on their own or split it between two runners in the relay.
