Overview

Runners take on ten miles of dirt, sand and root-strewn trail inside Jonathan Dickinson State Park after dark, guided only by their headlamps. Gates open at 4:30 PM, the race sets off at 6 PM and a post-race celebration with music and refreshments follows at 8:30 PM.

What to bring

Headlamp

On the day

ParkingA reliable headlamp with fresh batteries is essential. Bring a backup light or handheld torch, trail running shoes for dirt, sand, and roots, and weather-appropriate clothing. A phone, whistle, hydration, and insect repellent are strongly recommended for this after-dark trail event.

Public transportPrepare for ten miles on dirt, sand, and roots after dark. Practice night runs with your headlamp on similar terrain, include sand and rooty sections, and build distance gradually. Strengthen ankles and practice hydration and nutrition. Do a few runs in the dark so your eyes and gear are race-ready.

ToiletsState park restrooms or portable toilets are likely available near the start/finish, but showers and full changing rooms are not guaranteed. Plan to arrive ready to run and bring a towel, warm dry clothes, and a headlamp with spare batteries for after the race.

Bag dropA formal bag drop is not confirmed. Most runners at this type of event leave a change of clothes and post-race gear in their car. The post-race celebration with music and refreshments begins at 8:30 PM, so plan to keep valuables secure and avoid leaving items unattended.

First aid on courseThe course uses dirt, sand, and root-strewn trail, so expect reflective flags, glow sticks, or directional signs to guide you in the dark. Medical support is typically at the start/finish with possible mobile coverage. Carry a phone, know the emergency number, and report any injury to the nearest volunteer.

Before you enter

DeferralsThe official transfer and deferral policy is TBC. Many trail races allow transfers or deferrals up to a set deadline for a small fee, but only if the organizer permits it. Contact the race director as early as possible and do not run under another person's bib unless the race explicitly allows it.
