The Devil o' the Highlands Footrace follows the West Highland Way for 42 miles from Tyndrum to Fort William, climbing around 1,981 m over a point-to-point route that is 95 per cent trail and 5 per cent road. Runners pass Glencoe, Kinlochleven and Lundavra, with four checkpoints, two checkpoint food drop bags and baggage transport from start to finish. The whole route is waymarked so no navigation is needed, and a 12-hour limit applies with named cut-offs at Glencoe, Kinlochleven and Lundavra. The Fort William finish offers free showers, a post-race massage, home-made soup and hot food, and pre-race and post-race buses run between Fort William and Tyndrum for an extra cost. This year the event also hosts the Scottish Ultra Trail Championships.

Other questions
When entries open, places are allocated by gender. There are 400 places for women and 400 places for men, plus the option to enter as nonbinary. If a particular gender sells out, a waiting list opens for that gender. The aim is to balance the women and men split and to encourage nonbinary participation. Depending on entry numbers over time, any remaining places may be opened up to all genders at a later date.
No minimum running experience is required for entry. The organisers do not set a qualifying standard, but the course is 42 miles with around 1,981 m of ascent and a 12-hour limit, so you should be confident you can cover the distance within the cut-off times.
Spectators are welcome at Glencoe and Kinlochleven. No support crew assistance or spectators are allowed anywhere before the Glencoe checkpoint, and no support runners are allowed before the Kinlochleven checkpoint at 11:30am. Once you have made the final cut-off you are allowed to finish, so the finish in Fort William is a good place to meet your support.
Yes. Pre-race and post-race buses are available for an extra cost and with limited spaces. The early Saturday morning bus leaves Glen Nevis Campsite, stops at Fort William Bus Station and travels to the Tyndrum start, arriving in good time for registration and the race start. A return bus back to Tyndrum leaves after the event on Saturday at 6pm.
The finish in Fort William has free showers, a free post-race massage, free home-made soup, hot food and hot and cold drinks, and sponsor stalls. Disabled parking is available at the race finish. Official high resolution race photos are free to download for every runner.
