Terrain
The LSSA Cross Country League brings school runners from across Leeds together on the open grassland of Middleton Park Clearings, a short uphill walk from the John Charles Centre for Sport. The ground underfoot is rough grass and mud over an undulating profile, and race distances vary between 1.0 and 3.6 miles according to school year group, with a variable number of laps. Entry is a season ticket for the whole league and every runner is issued a race number with an embedded timing chip that must be kept from race to race. Teachers, or the parent responsible for a whole school, hand out the numbers on race day and collect them again afterwards. Only team managers may enter, and competing schools must be affiliated to the Leeds Schools Sports Association or, for primary schools, be a member of the Leeds Well Schools Partnership.
