Dartmoor Volcano Race - 10.5 miles

The Dartmoor Volcano Race is a 10.5 mile, fully waymarked trail race over rough southern Dartmoor, starting and finishing in the village of Scorriton on the edge of the national park. Runners climb almost 650 m on a high-level route that reaches Ryder's Hill at 515 m and crosses rocky, boggy and often very technical ground, taking in three river crossings, a clapper bridge and two bogs along the way. The Red Lake Volcano, which gives the race its name, is visible from miles around and forms the focal point of the course before a long descent back to the finish. First run in 2015 and described as Dartmoor's premier fell race, the 2027 edition is the eleventh anniversary event, held under UKA rules and licensed by the Trail Running Association with permission from the Dartmoor National Park Authority and the land owners.
